There’s something so special about photographing people you’ve known since they were little. This session was with my three sweet nieces, well, technically my boyfriend’s great-nieces — but at this point, they feel just like my own family.

Before I ever started dating their great uncle, I had the joy of photographing them when they were just tiny girls. Watching them grow over the years and now being part of their family has been such a blessing. So when it came time for this session, I knew I wanted it to be something that truly reflected who they are and where they come from.
We shot on a piece of land that holds so much family history — acres of fields, cows grazing in the distance, and an old abandoned truck sitting beside rice bins that once belonged to the family farm. I actually spotted this spot one day while we were riding around the property, and I instantly knew it would make the perfect backdrop. It’s one of those places that feels untouched, full of stories from years gone by.

The session itself was laid-back and full of laughter. I wanted to capture the girls just being kids — running around, climbing hay bales, and exploring like they do every day. It wasn’t about posing or perfection; it was about storytelling. About what growing up in the country really looks like — where your “backyard” is wide open, filled with tractors, pastures, and family memories.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the light turned golden and everything felt calm and familiar. I left that evening feeling so thankful — thankful that I get to freeze these moments in time for a family that’s become so dear to my heart.
